Guide to CBD Vape Strength & Dosage

Vaping CBD is one of the most popular ways for people to take CBD  as it’s both efficient and convenient, as well as offering a huge variety of enjoyable flavours and strengths that allow users to tailor their experience.

CBD can be vaped using disposable or refillable vape pens, which heat up CBD oil into a vapour that’s inhaled. Reported effects can be felt within minutes for  up to one hour, and it’s an affordable way to start a CBD regime for your lifestyle. In this guide to CBD strength and dosage, discover how CBD is measured, the difference between strength and dosage, what that means for your CBD use, and more.

How is CBD measured?

CBD, or cannabidiol, is a natural and active compound extracted from hemp plants and used by many people to manage their health and wellbeing, although more research is needed to definitively state its effects and potential benefits.

CBD can be measured in a number of ways:

  • By weight (milligrams)
  • By volume (millilitres)
  • By strength (percentage)

Which measurement you pay attention to will depend on a range of factors, but typically, when buying a CBD product you will want to know the weight or milligrams (mgs) of CBD, for example, in your chosen bottle of CBD oil. Knowing this measurement allows you to work out how much CBD you’re getting per drop, meaning you can work out your daily dose to help get the desired effects you’re aiming for.

On average, say a 10ml bottle of CBD oil contains 200 drops. If it also contains 500mg of CBD, there would be 2.5mg of CBD per drop (500/200=2.5). When vaping, the mg of CBD works the same – you take the amount of CBD in the cartridge and work out the number of puffs on average. You could also keep a close eye on how much has been vaped, a fifth or a quarter of the oil for example.

What is the difference between CBD strength and CBD dosage?

The difference between CBD vape strength and CBD dosage can seem complicated at first, but it’s important to understand so you can get the right CBD strength for you. Before taking CBD, it’s recommended that you consult with your GP or healthcare professional, especially if you’re taking any medications.

What is CBD strength?

CBD strength refers to the amount of CBD in milligrams that are in a CBD product, such as vape oil, per millilitres. When there is a high volume of CBD per mls, it can be described as a high strength and high potency CBD product, and when there is a low volume of CBD per mls, it can be described as a low strength or low potency product. This can also be referred to as CBD concentration.

CBD vape strength is mostly advertised as a percentage and it’s generally accepted that anything 5% or less is low strength, 10% or more is medium strength, and anything above 20% is high strength.

Essentially, you need to know the strength and how many mgs of CBD you’re getting per ml or per puff, so that you can control your intake and stay within the recommended daily dose.

What is CBD dosage?

CBD dosage is how much CBD you’re taking into your system. Typically this is referred to as a daily dose, but could also refer to how much CBD you’re taking per drop or puff, and how much in any one instance of having CBD, eg. during a vaping break, or in your morning tea.

All CBD products should come with a maximum dose you should not exceed. A CBD dose is in mgs and the right dose for an individual will depend on a range of factors, including body weight, health conditions, the reasons for trying CBD, the method of intake, and the desired effects.

What’s the difference?

  • CBD strength is the amount of CBD in mg per ml in a product, usually expressed as a percentage
  • CBD dosage is the amount of CBD a person takes, typically referred to as a daily dose, for which there are maximums that shouldn’t be exceeded

What CBD strengths are available to vape?

As vaping CBD is one of the most popular methods of taking CBD, there is a wide choice not only in flavour, but in strengths. As stated, strengths will generally be highlighted as a percentage on CBD oils and on disposable vape pens, and you can find:

  • Low strength (5% or less)
  • Medium strength (10%+)
  • High strength (20%+)

Regardless of the CBD vape strength you’re used to or require for your needs, always check the instructions and take care to consider your daily dosage. Keep an eye on your tank or cartridge going down throughout the day and how long it takes you to finish, working out how much CBD you have had and the results.

How much CBD should a newbie begin with?

When you’re new to vaping CBD and don’t know how it will affect you or how much you need to achieve the results you want – you should always start with a low dose.

Once you understand the impact of CBD and its potential benefits to you and your body, you can look to gradually increase your daily dose over a few weeks and months to a larger volume. During this time, make a note of the CBD vape strength and how you feel – this will help you tailor your experience so it works the best for you and your needs.

With vaping it is important to note that your CBD dose will depend on your style of inhalation (short or long puffs), in addition to your own body, your endocannabinoid system, and how it responds to CBD.

Over time you’ll also be able to find your favourite CBD vapes and disposable vape pens, and even do a CBD strength comparison. Just remember, consult your GP or healthcare professional before starting.

What is the impact of too much CBD?

CBD, or cannabidiol, whilst a natural extract with a range of reported, anecdotal benefits, can have negative effects when too much is taken. The impacts of too much CBD can include:

  • A dry mouth
  • Nausea
  • An upset stomach
  • Tiredness
  • Reduced appetite
  • Irritability

Generally, an adult can have a high tolerance to CBD but it’s essential that everyone using CBD starts with a small dose and a low CBD strength level whilst monitoring the results. A person may have a bad reaction and it’s best to be cautious to limit exposure and as a result, limit any adverse effects.

Summary

Vaping CBD can be an enjoyable and convenient way to get your daily dose of high quality CBD, and is especially good for beginners as there is so much choice available. Whether you use refillable pens or disposable vape pens, you can keep track of how much CBD you’re taking and find the right strength for you.
